The Growth of Science + Technology at Forest City

University Park at MIT: The Crown Jewel

This award-winning, 27-acre development MIT is located directly adjacent to the MIT campus. The project includes 1.5 million square feet of scientific research facilities in nine buildings, 674 residential units, a hotel and conference center, retail amenities, structured parking for 2,700 cars and three acres of landscaped courtyards and pedestrian walkways.

Features of the laboratory space include generous floor-to-floor heights, reinforced flooring for high-density laboratory equipment, an intensive infrastructure, ample penthouse space for exhaust systems and other specialized equipment, and loading docks with access to dedicated freight elevators.

Campus amenities consist of a 210-room hotel and conference center, two restaurants, a health club, full-service grocery store, banking center and childcare center. The park is in close proximity to public transportation, major highways and Logan International Airport. There are 674 residential units in five buildings that range between stylishly contemporary studios to historic loft-style duplexes.

A three-acre system of parks and open spaces connects the campus and encourages a lively area both day and night. There is also 24-hour campus and building security to ensure the safety of residents and tenants.

Translational Research Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania: State-of-the-Art Conversion

Forest City converted an abandoned industrial facility into state-of-the-art, flexible and efficient laboratory space. Modifications include a new second story within and on top of the original structure; a skylight atrium designed to organize the building and the public space within; and installation of the infrastructure necessary to support cutting-edge research. The 128,000-square-foot facility is owned and operated by Forest City, but has been master-leased back to UPenn for use by programs emerging from its medical and engineering schools.
