Forest City Science + Technology Group
The Forest City Science + Technology Group is a strategic business initiative of Forest City Enterprises that specializes in integrating the worlds of technology and real estate. The group was established in Boston in 1984, when Forest City was selected by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as the master developer of the mixed-use, 2.3-million-square foot campus community that would one day become University Park at MIT.
The unique partnership between MIT and Forest City was a sign of great things to come; the vision of partnering with universities to establish scientific research centers has become a reality. In addition to creating research hubs to surround the intellectual talent concentrated at universities across the country, these partnerships are a source of new jobs, tax revenue, and help to revitalize the communities surrounding these institutions.
Today, the Science + Technology Group helps to design, develop, lease and manage state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to advanced research. Through their 20 years of experience, the group has built partnerships with academic, medical and scientific institutions and corporations, specializing in public/private partnerships and mixed-use developments.
In addition to these partnerships, the group brings highly specialized skills to projects, including expertise in the design, development, and operation of bioscience buildings, together with a long-term investment perspective, significant financial resources, and a demonstrated ability to work creatively with both corporate and institutional partners. This combination of experience and skills has served both the group and its clients well, and the Science + Technology Group’s portfolio currently boasts 1.6 million square feet of completed wet lab space, with an additional 2 million square feet presently under construction.
