The Result
The groundbreaking for Orchard Town Center took place in September and was attended by well over 125 guests.
“In what we anticipate to be a top-notch lifestyle center, the Orchard will be a premier shopping destination for the Westminster/Thornton area,” said Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally. “Our close partnership with Forest City is going to result in a true jewel for the region.”
In addition, there are two projects tied in with Orchard Town Center. In order to better serve the growing north-area development, the city of Westminster will build a brand-new interchange. Also, there will be a street-improvement project for the streets adjacent to Orchard Town Center - Huron and 144th streets. Construction already has begun and is due to be completed before the anchor tenants open later this year.
“This has been a great partnership – Forest City has had a ‘can-do’ attitude about everything,” said McFall. “Not only are we creating a shopping and entertaining destination for the city, but we also are playing a part in building community, with mixed-use and housing, and that is very exciting.”
McFall estimates that the Orchard Town Center will generate 3,000 jobs for the area as well as $85-100 million in tax growth. In addition, the city has sold more than $85 million in bonds and certificates of participation (COPs) to help fund public improvements to serve the project.
“We’re moving forward,” said Tindall. “Orchard Town Center is truly one of our most exciting projects to date.”
