Forest City’s 3rd Annual Community Day

Across the nation and beyond, 1,324 Forest City associates in 36 cities contributed more than 11,000 hours of community service to nonprofit organizations in celebration of Forest City’s 3rd Annual Community Day.  From Cleveland to Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., and everywhere in between, on Friday, June 9, Forest City associates waived a day at the office to give back to their communities.

In Greater Cleveland, Ohio, 455 volunteers visited Providence House, Mount Pleasant Boys and Girls Club, Fairhill Center, Mather Day Care Center, New Avenues for Independence, Parmadale and Lake-Geauga Head Start.

Out west, volunteers spent Community Day at Valley Food Box in Tucson, Ariz.; Goodwill in Henderson, Nev.; and Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque, N.M.

Forest City associates volunteered at organizations in eight California cities: My Club Youth Center, Los Angeles; Children’s Center of Antelope Valley, Palmdale; Senior Center at Central Park, Rancho Cucamonga; St. Vincent de Paul Village, San Diego; South of Market Child Care, San Francisco; First 5 Ventura County, Simi Valley; Rancho Damacitas, Temecula; and Habitat for Humanity, San Jose.

Two groups of Forest City volunteers, from Buffalo, N.Y., and Xenia, Ohio, also worked with Habitat for Humanity on Community Day.  While associates in Lima, Ohio, helped out at Quest Academy and those in Portsmouth, Ohio, volunteered with a homeless shelter operation.

In other parts of New York, Forest City associates worked at Lincoln Terrace Park and Met Council on Jewish Poverty in Brooklyn.  And about 70 volunteers from Long Island and Stamford, CT, spent the day serving at soup kitchens.

There were another 70 volunteers in Honolulu, Hawaii, at Aliamanu and Pearl Harbor elementary schools.  Many more schools received help from Forest City volunteers, such as Ashley Elementary School in Denver, Colo.; George F. Johnson Elementary School in Pikeville, Ky.; and Novak-King School in Chicago, Ill.

Also in Chicago, Forest City associates volunteered at Grandparents City Park.  More parks receiving aid were Henrico County Recreation Parks in Richmond, Va., and Atlanta, Ga.  Volunteers in San Juan, Puerto Rico, fixed up a baseball field.

In addition, volunteers cleaned up the wetlands with the Charles River Project in Boston, Mass., and The Earth Conservation Corps in Washington, D.C.  Meanwhile, Forest City associates volunteered with East Baltimore Development in Baltimore, Md.

Forest City associates in Pennsylvania spent Community Day at Philadelphia Cares, Philadelphia, and Gwen’s Girls, Pittsburgh.  And finally, Ypsilanti Senior Center in Detroit, Mich., The Center for Learning and Living in Brentwood, Tenn., and Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Charleston, W.Va., also benefited from volunteers’ efforts.

Many thanks to all of the companies that donated time and money to help Forest City make these efforts possible.  Sincere appreciation is also extended to the organizations that invited the company to volunteer, and to the Forest City associates who participated.

This collective theme of gratitude resonated throughout Community Day.  All participants were thankful to have the opportunity to serve their communities, to work together as a team and to promote the well-being of others.
