What We Do
At Forest City, we’re working every day to green our portfolio of residential communities, retail centers and office buildings, including the places where we work every day.

Many of Forest City’s best examples of sustainable real estate management are historic rehabilitations and adaptive reuses of landmark buildings in America’s urban fabric.

In the early 1990s, Forest City’s commitment to sustainability reached new levels through our award-winning redevelopment of the Stapleton airport in Denver. Stapleton is now an international model of sustainable community development.

Through that project, we learned that sustainability fit well into our business model and we added it as a Company Core Value in 2003.

And Stapleton is just one of our properties that has achieved or is targeting green certification, along with The Uptown in Oakland and The Yards in Washington, D.C. View the entire list of sustainable properties.

Throughout our portfolio, we’re focusing on different ways of making our operations more sustainable.  From our nationwide energy-management program to recycling, green cleaning, water conservation, green roofs and more, we are proud of the steps we are taking to make a difference for our planet.
