How We Do It
As a real estate company that creates and maintains the places where people live, work, shop and stay, we have a responsibility to be good stewards of our planet. In this role, we strive for an ideal: innovative communities that not only let residents, tenants, workers and visitors live happy, healthy and sustainable lives, but also inspire them to new heights. We’ve seen it happen in places like Stapleton in Denver and The Uptown in Oakland, and we working to green more of our properties every day.
Forest City has continued to adapt business practices and embrace a new standard of environmental performance.
In addition, we communicate with our partners, tenants, residents and associate through initiatives such as the GreenHouse Program, which offers advice on sustainability and green living practices to our residents. Forest City has also created the Sustainable Building Reference Guide, which provides retail tenants with educational materials on green building practices.
Strong organizational and executive support bolster our commitment to sustainability. The Company's vice president of Sustainability Initiatives champions our efforts across all business units, while our Energy Services department oversees our efforts to conserve energy and resources across our operating portfolio. In addition, we invest in training and education for our associates while promoting sustainability awareness through the Company's first employee blog.
